The Foot Game
This is a co-operative drill to practise footwork. The sword swings are not so much meant to be cuts but rather to give the defender's steps direction, timing and purpose. The base movement should be fluid and precise, but you can also freely include more creative actions.

Improvised sword cutting
Просмотров 4,1 тыс.4 года назад
Improvised sword cuts inspired by Bolognese fencing, and dall'Agocchie's solo form. Improvised cutting such as displayed here is a great way to train flow and technique, as well as to study how your own body and mind naturally work with the sword. You can also use it to better integrate set sequences and actions to your own style of movement. Every now and then it is good to make a video of you...
Climbing over a wall 50 times

Another quarantine-time fitness activity challenge, climbing over a wall 50 times. I forgot to time it properly, but it took me roughly 50 minutes. Next challenge is doing this without any rest periods, and then the next is the higher wall. 🙂 Check also Hanna's channel: ruclips.net/channel/UC05YEmFsPnZriFadl6FNG9g

This is the qualification video for the 2010 Achille Marozzo Primo Assalto competition in Brescia, organized by the Guardia di Croce. A lot has happened in the past seven years, my execution of the assalto has drastically improved as you can see by comparing to later videos. But nothing beats the cinematography in this video, done by Matti Eerikäinen, mattieerikainen.net. The video originally f...

Super cardio exercise that will destroy you in 2 minutes

This is an exercise I invented. Or I didn't invent the moves but I got the idea of putting them together. It is a combo of the running man and the worm (with a jump) done for time. Try it. And yeah, I can't dance for shit and need to practice the moves a lot more.
Cutting patterns for the sidesword

These are a few work in progress interpretations of cutting patterns extracted from the plays of the Anonimo Bolognese. These are mostly examples of gioco largo actions, and most of the cuts are targeted at the opponent's sword hand or they are intended as parries.

(**** 4 stars) A darker background would definitely help us see faster movements. Also, occasionally the movement is almost off-screen on the right. Otherwise ... WELL DONE!!

I've always wondered why there are Cinghiara variants of Porta di Ferro guards, but not of the Coda Longa guards? Do the sources themselves explain this, or is the reason merely hinted at and can be supported elsewhere?

Did some of this come from Chinese martial arts? At first I thought it was definitely superficial, but your stretches here are including some things that are treated as explicitly Chinese and somewhat controversial in practice and application these days! I know this was a while ago, but was there any connection that you know?

Are you Finnish? Your name sounds like it, you really look a lot like my wife's cousins in Helsinki, but your accent is all over the place! Sometimes it reminds me of the accents of my Finnish family, at least with certain sounds. Whether you are or not, your accent sounds very worldly and sophisticated to my ear at least, so please know I mean no offense. That said, I really enjoy your content here! I hope that you are still training and coaching wherever you are!

Interestingly, the algorithm is labeling this as "Chinese Martial Arts." I was honestly thinking how much this is like the swordplay for the jian/gim when I saw it! Does Bolognase swordplay have a concept of, "stickiness"? I'm really curious if it is only superficially similar in this limited capacity, or not! If they are similar, is there some relation beyond a similar weight and balance of their sword? If not, how did they both evolve separately? I'm not expecting anyone else to hand me definitibe answers, I just hope someone relates to my curiosity

Sidesword play looks a lot like saber but slightly more complex. Here I saw false edge parries and strikes, lots of passing footwork and lateral movement, and low body voids used both defensively and offensively. Strangely enough, nearly all of these techniques can still be used with a saber in hand, even the false edge cuts, since a lot of them have a sharpened false edge on the foible. I speculate that these aspects weren't codified in saber manuals because the saber was a weapon of war in its particular era, used either on horseback or in tight quarters where free movement is restricted (in infantry formations, shipboard, in a trench, etc.).
